At smartmessages, we're strong supporters of SPF (Sender Policy Framework), and encourage all our customers to make use of it, not least because it can improve delivery rates of your legitimate messages. The BITS white paper is a strong statement of the importance of SPF in anti-forgery - you know how irritating and dangerous it is to receive email that says it's from your bank, but isn't - now imagine how your bank feels about it - would you want your business to be on the receiving end of such unpleasant activities?? SPF is an important measure aginst such forgeries. You can read more about it on the SPF site. Though we can't implement SPF for you (if we could it would seriously undermine its effectiveness), we can help you with configuration and implementation.

Our own SPF record is set as tight as it can be - you are unlikely to ever receive an email that says it's from smartmessages when it isn't. If you use smartmessages and want to give us explicit permission to send email on your behalf (let's face it, that makes a lot of sense!), you should add the string 'include:smartmessages.net' to your own SPF record.

Combined with the recent addition of our anti-phishing features, smartmessages offers strong resistance to forgery and phishing when you use our services.
